I am not sure, but I think it was a Saturday night at the house. My brother, mother and I had been home for awhile and it was getting near suppertime. My sister, her husband, her son, and daughter in-law, and granddaughter would be arriving soon and we didn’t have any plans for supper. We asked mom and she was in the mood for Hawaiian pizza. We decided we would order it and then split the cost. I suggested that we have it delivered, because no one really wanted to pick it up. I had a pizza delivered before and it took about 30 minutes to arrive.
Well, after about 45 minutes everyone was getting a little restless. My mom was asking when was the pizza coming and so I got the job of calling to find out what happened. I called and the answer was that the pizza was on its way and they were extremely busy making lots of deliveries. We waited another five to ten minutes and then I went outside to meet the deliverer. He was a young man, probably between 16 to 20 years of age. He apologized and said that he had to make a delivery to a town a great distance away. Some one had accidentally called the wrong pizza location. This gentlemen could not stop apologizing. I told him, “No Worries, it’s ok,” and handed him the money and a good tip.
Then I heard that small voice that said give him a $10 tip. Well, what was I to do? I took the pizza inside and got a ten dollar bill. My brother looked at me like I had 3 heads and asked, “Why are you giving this guy a big tip after he was over an hour late?” I told him I would tell him later.
I prayed as I was walking out the door that if God really wanted me to give him the extra money, that he would stay where he was parked. Would you believe it, he was still there. I waved my hands and ran towards his car. He rolled down the window and I handed him the ten dollars. He said, “You don’t have to do this,” to which I replied, “You deserve this!” He said, “Have a blessed evening!” “You too,” I said back to him.
I then went inside and explained the situation to my brother, and of course, he fully understood. I had told my niece in-law about the Tend 2 Bless website and how it got started. That evening she had the opportunity to see it first hand.
I have to admit, when God speaks sometimes I listen, but have a hard time obeying. Everything inside me told me the pizza deliverer would be gone, so what’s the use? I have to fight through my instincts and thoughts and just do it! That is something I am going to have to work on in my life. It’s not only in giving the $10 away, but also in every area of my life. Sometimes it just doesn’t make sense to do some of the things God asks me to do, but truthfully, that is what Faith is! Faith is believing that God will do what He says He will do! Faith is trusting God even when you don’t make sense of the situation! It’s like the song says, “Trust and Obey!” It doesn’t say Trust and try to figure it out, or when you understand the reason for doing something, then obey. No, it’s trusting God and then do what He says, whether you understand it or not.
