In one of my previous posts, I said that sometimes God makes me wait for a couple of months before He leads me to do something with the money I have set aside. I have learned not to question why He wants me to wait and not ask the amount He wants me to save.
In the early 80s, I was a Christian School teacher in Minnesota. I was one of the first faculty members in this new Christian school. My pastor and his wife were good friends, and I knew their families well. My pastor’s wife, Jane, and I attended the same college and worked in the activities department together. Little did we know that someday she would be my pastor’s wife. Thankfully, we have stayed in touch through Facebook.
I remember when they had their first child, a girl named Elisabeth. She was beautiful. Time passed, and I moved to Ohio and then to Massachusetts. I now had a son, and their family had grown to eight. When Facebook came into being, we reconnected. In September 2019, I discovered that Elisabeth, married with two children, had suffered a stroke. My heart broke, not only for her immediate family but also for her extended family.
One of her cousins started a GoFundMe page to help defer the medical bills. There was no question about where I should send the saved-up money. I don’t even remember how much money I had saved. I prayed and let God give me the amount to send.
Sometimes God leads us to help fellow Christians. Isn’t that what a family does? We help each other in times of need. Maybe you can’t give any money because of your present circumstance, but you can pray and send an encouragement card to the family. You can repost the article on FB and share it with your friends. Then they can pray for the family or maybe even give some money. We never know what God can lead people to do.
There is a lot of pain and suffering in our churches and families. We need to be there to pray, help, and encourage them. No, we can’t help everyone, but God has placed us in a specific area to do a particular job for Him. Let’s do our part in helping those in our circle of influence!
I am happy to report that Elisabeth has recovered from the stroke and is doing well.
