I was walking towards my car when suddenly I knew I had to go back inside that Neighborhood Walmart for one more purchase. I entered and walked towards the flower stand. As I contemplated on which arrangement to purchase the thought entered my mind. Who gives flowers to their doctor? Well, maybe if she is your regular doctor, but this was going to be someone new as my regular doctor was booked for months.
I agreed to this new doctor when I made the appointment, but I did not think at that time I would be giving her flowers. I made my purchase of some colorful roses and lilies and I was out the door on my way to my appointment.
I parked the car, walked towards the elevator and waited. I noticed the faces of the women that I passed on the way to the office. When they saw the flowers, most of them smiled. Then it hit me, I wish I could give everyone of them a bouquet. I don’t know what is going on in their lives, but for some reason, flowers make you feel special.
I waited in the office until my name was called and then it was off to meet my new doctor. She was young and asked about my life. She noticed my accent and asked how I ended up in Texas. I told her my story and we continued to chat as she did my examination.
Now, in the back of my mind I was praying and trying to figure out how I would give her the flowers and what I would say to her. She left the room for a moment and I got ready to leave.
I opened the door and she said, “Wow, those are beautiful flowers, are they for me?” I then replied, “Yes,” and handed her a Gospel tract with the bouquet. She thanked me and off I went towards the elevator.
I then began thinking about how God is so interested in the details and timing in our lives. I couldn’t find the right color nail polish and because of that, I went to another store which lead me to seeing the elderly lady who received the first bouquet of flowers to then reentering the store to purchase the second bouquet for my doctor.
The Bible says in John 10:10 that Jesus has come that we might have life and have it abundantly. I believe God wants to bless us, and wants to use us to be blessings to other people if we would only follow His directions and let Him have control.
I am not saying everything will be perfect, and that there will not be times of sorrow and suffering in our lives. I am saying we have a Heavenly Father (Abba – Daddy) that will be with us during those times. He knows what will happen today and tomorrow. We don’t need to understand the “Whys” we just need to trust Him. Perhaps there is someone who will cross your path today whom you could bless with a bouquet of flowers or a kind word or smile.
