There was a $10 bill quietly tucked in my purse awaiting to be used.
One of the most exciting things about giving away the money is that it keeps you in a constant state of praying. Where will God want me give it to, or to whom will He want me to spend it on. You never get bored, in fact it is exhilarating at times.
I was working on one Saturday night, when one of my regular customers came in to shop. She usually comes in once a month to pay her bill and then do some shopping. Most of the time, her sister in-law is with her. I asked how she was and then proceeded to ask about her sister in-law. She said she was doing well, but her sister in-law had spent Christmas Eve and Christmas in the hospital. She has lupus. At the present time she was in a rehab center until she would be able to come home. My heart sank to think of someone having to spend their Christmas in the hospital.
Then I knew what I was supposed to do, although to be honest with you, I began arguing with myself about the reasons not to do it. I knew I should give the customer some money to get some flowers for her sister in-law. In fact, she had mentioned that the room her sister in-law was staying in was empty and sort of depressing. Then what was my problem? Why can’t I just give her the money? Didn’t I trust her?
God is so patient with me. I knew God wanted me to give her the money for the flowers, and yes, I was going to have to trust her. Besides, the money doesn’t belong to me, it is God’s and if He wants me to give it to her, I need to do it!
It was almost time to close the store, but I asked the customer to stay while I got the money out of my purse. I handed her a little more than ten dollars and asked if she would buy some flowers and give it to her sister in-law. The look on her face was amazing! She agreed and said that she was thinking about getting flowers on her own. She then said she was going to have her sister in-law call me tomorrow at work and personally thank me. She hugged me and kept talking about it as she left the store.
Sometimes God asks us to put our faith in Him even when we may be apprehensive about the situation.
By the way, I got the call the next day at work about the flowers and how much it meant to the patient. She thanked me not only for the flowers, but that I had thought about her and was praying for her.
