Did you ever have some event take place and you thought to yourself, “This happened at just the perfect time?” Let’s face it, our lives would be easier if everything happened at just the right time. Unfortunately, that’s not how life works. Why? The fact of the matter is, in the scope of eternity, we are not in charge of time. We cannot make time stand still, or speed up. The only thing we can do is use our time wisely or foolishly.
God is in charge of time, He created it. Yes, He can make time stand still like He did for Joshua in the Bible. I don’t recall a time when He made time speed up. Although the older you become, the faster it seems to fly by. The Bible speaks a great deal about time. Proverbs 27:1 says, “Do not boast about tomorrow, For you do not know what a day may bring forth.” We do not know what is going to happen tomorrow. We can have plans and think everything is going to go well, and then “BAM!” something out of the blue happens to those well constructed plans.
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 talks about a time for everything. Have you ever read 3:11 in that same chapter? It says, “He has made everything appropriate in its time…” God’s timing is not always our timing. We want certain things in our lives, and we want them in our timing. Maybe it is buying a house, or car, or perhaps it is finding a spouse, we think we need them at a certain time, and sometimes God has other plans for us. He knows what is best for our lives. His timing is “Perfect,” although we may not always agree with Him.
Sadly, we live in a “Microwave Generation.” We want things, and we want them NOW! I am not saying it is easy for me to wait for things, and to be honest I love the microwave. When I am hungry I don’t want to wait an extra thirty minutes for something to be reheated when I can just pop it in the microwave and be done in two minutes. Please don’t think I have mastered this area of waiting. I have not! Yet, the older I am, the more I realize that if I wait for God’s timing, it is always better.
In my last post I spoke about my store closing and I was thinking about retiring. I was unsure of what God had in store for me at this time of my life. I was able to catch up on things, and I accomplished most of what I had written down on my lists. LOL! I wrote out a budget, checked into Social Security and saw that I would need a little extra income to live comfortably. Thus began my job search, this time it would only be part-time. I was fine with that, except who really likes searching for a job? Thankfully I was able to tweak my resume and then began the search. One of my coworkers mentioned the local Hallmark store was looking for some help. I put my resume in for a part-time key holder and within hours I was scheduled for an interview. I prayed, went to my first interview, and scheduled a second one. Not to drag this out, but I will begin training next week. I am excited!
God’s timing was perfect! I had the time to help my sister make 10 loads of special dirt for the new garden boxes she added to the garden this year. I also had the time to help my mom with spring cleaning. I was able to change my room around and do some spring cleaning. My list that I wanted to accomplish during my retirement time is still not completed, but the needed things are finished.
I don’t know what God is doing in your life at this time, but I know that He knows what you need, and when you need it. Let Him have the controls, He can handle it! He has a perfect plan for our lives. Let’s remember, “He has made everything appropriate in its time…” Ecc. 3:11
