God truly works in mysterious ways!
I had $10 bill in my purse for two weeks and I had received another paycheck. Now I had a $20 bill and was awaiting to hear that “Still, small voice.”
It was Christmas time and I had to go to Walmart to do some shopping. I was in line ready to check out when I noticed a fireman behind me. I noticed that he was buying his lunch and commented that my son, who is a police officer, would buy the same lunch as he was purchasing. I thanked the cashier and off I went to my car.
I got about half way home when DUHHHH! Why didn’t I pay for the fireman’s lunch? I had the money!! I then told God to please “YELL” at me the next time He wants me to pay for someone’s lunch. I was sooo consumed and pleased that I had gotten all my errands done for that day that I wasn’t listening to that “still small voice.” I felt so badly and apologized to God for not listening and being consumed with myself. Now, I asked for a second chance to find someone else to bless with the money.
The next day my sister and I went Christmas shopping and truly we shopped until we dropped. We had been going all over the place when we suddenly realized we had skipped lunch. We were both starved and needed food as quickly as possible. Now comes the dilemma, where to eat?
We decided to go to Panera for a large salad, instead of fries and a quick hamburger. We ordered and sat down and ate almost every morsel of food on our plates. I happened to be facing the pick up window and noticed a young man, maybe in his twenties and another woman who were the servers. They would bring the meals to the customers, and then later clear off their tables. I, at one time, worked as a waitress and knew how hard the work is, never mind some of the customers you have to serve. I noticed these two servers were pleasant and displayed a servant’s attitude. Bingo!
This time I heard that “Still small voice” about giving them the money, but all I had was a $20 bill. I asked my sister and she didn’t have any change. I thought, I am going to find a way to do this. I went to the front cashier, who conveniently didn’t have anyone near her and asked for change. I happened to notice a tip container in front of the register. The manager had to open the draw and I asked if I could tip an individual. He said that it was fine.
I received my change, and I was off. I found the young man wiping down the garbage container and proceeded to walk up to him. I handed him a $10 bill and said, “Merry Christmas.” He smiled and thanked me. Now, I was off to find the woman. She was at the window waiting for a meal. I walked up to her and said, “Merry Christmas” and gave her two $5 bills. The look on her face was priceless.
I walked away thanking the Lord for giving me another chance to bless someone. I am so thankful we serve a God that is a “God of Second Chances.”
