Last week I had a doctor’s appointment for my yearly woman’s check up. I got up that morning early enough to spend some quiet time alone with God. Trust me, when I say I need to spend time with the Lord. Ask my family, there is a difference when I don’t take the time to pray and read God’s Word. As I was praying that morning the thought came into my mind that I had not posted anything on my blog lately. I have been using the $10 per paycheck, but I haven’t always said how I used it. I thought maybe I will pick up some flowers on my way to my appointment and see who ends up with them.
Needless to say, traffic was terrible. It seemed like every way I went there was a slow person driving under the speed limit! Yikes! Of course, I am complaining to the Lord that at this rate I am not going to have time to stop and get those flowers. Well, I didn’t get the flowers, and ended up being a little late for the appointment.
My regular doctor was not available and I had a resident doctor. When she came to get me in the waiting room, I thought she was the nurse who usually gets all the preliminary tests done before the real doctor comes in to see you. This was not the case, she took all the necessary information and then did all the other tests. Her bedside manner was impeccable! She took the time to talk to me, to listen to any concerns I had, and to make me feel like she was interested in me as a patient.
I thanked her and left the office regretting the fact that I didn’t pick up those flowers to give to her. I got in my car and off I started to do some errands. Then the thought came, why don’t you go get the doctor flowers? Of course I started arguing saying, but that means going 15 minutes to Walmart, then driving back 15 more minutes, parking and going up to the fourth floor and back into the doctor’s office. “But, Lord, if that’s what you want, I will do it!” I did have the time before I had to go to work! I was going to go shopping if I had finished the doctor’s office early.
I went to Walmart and picked up some flowers. I strapped a Gospel tract to the stem of them and off I drove back to the doctor’s office. I walked in the waiting room and talked to the receptionist. She said that she would check if the doctor was available. She then led me to the doctor’s office. I walked in and handed her the flowers and thanked her for her excellent beside manner. She smiled, thanked me, and gave me a hug. We chatted for a few moments and then I left, thanking the receptionist on the way out the door.
I arrived on the first floor and as I walked towards the door I noticed a elderly woman sitting alone on the bench next to the door. As I started walking out the door, I thought, I have something I can give her that she won’t look so sad and lonely. By the way, do you make deals with God? Do you say, “Lord, I will do this for you, if you will let this happen to me.” Well, I did one of those deals with God. I said, “Lord, I will go back and give this lady a Gospel tract if that is what my hand pulls out of my purse.” Please don’t judge me, God is still working on me! I put my hand into my purse and my hand pulls out a Gospel tract! LOL! I turned around, went back through the doors and handed the lady the tract.
My last errand before work was to pick up my mom’s prescription. I went into the store and picked it up. I then started walking towards the checkout and noticed a table with 70% off home decor items. They were exactly the items I was looking for to decorate my bathroom. I couldn’t believe it! My plan was to go to Hobby Lobby to find some decor if I had finished my doctor’s appointment early.
Isn’t that the way God works? How many times, when we are doing His will, He gives us exactly what we wanted? I don’t always understand how God works. But I do know that when I try to follow His way instead of my own way, I am not sorry!
