One morning during my “Prayer Time” the thought popped into my head about getting my daughter-in-law’s parents a photo blanket. I had received two for Christmas and I knew how much they meant to me. I contacted my daughter-in-law and asked her to send me some photos of her family. She quickly sent me some and then my sister and I worked on positioning the photos. After we were both satisfied with the layout, I ordered the blanket. To my delight, there was free shipping and it was scheduled to be delivered to their front door in a little over a week. My daughter-in-law’s parents did receive the blanket and were thrilled to see all the family photos.
I feel it is important to mention something about this post and how it came about. I became a Christian when I was twelve years old. My parents were Christians, but were searching for a church where they could grow in their Christian life. We found one, and with all of us kids becoming Christians, our family life became God-centered.
I don’t recall the exact time, but I do remember that we were taught to read the Bible and pray everyday. Now, we didn’t always do that, but we were taught how important it was in our Christian life. Sometimes we would have family devotions where we would read the Bible and pray as a family.
I remember in college, during our nightly devotions, our supervisor asked how many people spend time daily reading the Bible and praying? I was aghast at the small amount of people that raised their hands. I was thankful that my parents stressed the importance of daily Bible reading and prayer.
There are days when I don’t spend as much time reading God’s Word as I should or praying as long as I should. However, I am learning that the older I get, the more I need to spend time in prayer and Bible reading. I need God’s leadership in my life, and I need the encouragement and guidance that I find in His Word.
My Pastor, Dr. Jeffress, says prayer is like oxygen, we need it to live. He is exactly right! Many times I have made the wrong decision or said the wrong thing, because instead of praying I shoot my mouth off.
I have also found that during my prayer time God pops ideas into my head that can help me in areas of my life, and help me to be a blessing to others.
