The third $10 is now in my purse and I am awaiting to hear from the Lord what I am supposed to do with it. I am getting ready to take a trip to New England to see my son and his family and celebrate an early Christmas. My brother is going to take me to the airport at the ungodly hour of 5:30 a.m.
The “idea” pops into my mind to give my brother the money and tell him to buy some donuts for everyone back home. I had planned on giving him gas money so this would have been a treat for the whole family. The Lord had been speaking to my heart about taking care of family and not expecting things to be done without blessing them in some way.
I think sometimes we assume that because they are family we can ask them for anything without ever repaying them. Why do we feel that way? I personally think it is because of the philosophy of this generation. Everyone is so concerned about themselves and what they want, they forget about the people who have provided for them.
Let’s face it, we have a “microwave, self-centered generation.” Being that we have this fleshly nature which screams, “It’s all about me,” we are in a constant battle against these self-absorbed thoughts. That is one of the reasons why I started this blog, to help people and children to think about others, to be aware of our surroundings and people’s needs. Now, please don’t think I have mastered this, because I have not!
Let me get off my soapbox and get back to the $10. I told my brother about getting the donuts for everyone and he refused to take the money. GRRRRR! So, I quickly prayed and asked God to show me what to do.
I arrived at the airport and was checking in my bags when I heard that still small voice say, “Give it to the man checking in your bags.” I placed the $10 in his tip jar and wished him a Merry Christmas. As I walked away I began thinking about this man. He got up very early to come to work, to stand outside in the cold for, who knows how many hours, to check in people’s luggage. He deals with all types of people, yet he remains friendly and polite.
God in His miraculous wisdom knew that this man needed some extra encouragement today!
